How to Prevent Your Camera From Freezing During Winter Camping |
| Winter camping offers stunning photographic opportunities but not if your camera freezes. Prevent cold from freezing your camera, draining your batteries and tearing or fogging your film. |
| Steps: |
1. Keep your camera and batteries in a fleece camera bag worn around your neck, waist or against your back. You can also carry your camera in an insulated bag specially designed to protect against the cold. |
2. Adjust your cold camera gradually to warmer temperatures to avoid condensation that will fog your film. First bring it away from your body and into the vestibule of your tent, then into the tent itself, and finally into your sleeping bag. |
3. Sleep with your camera, along with anything else you are carrying that is battery operated. You'll sleep most comfortably if you place these at the foot of your sleeping bag. |
4. Rewarm your camera batteries before pronouncing them dead. Cold can drain batteries, but they may come back to life after rewarming. |
